Safeguarding & Online Safety Education for Schools

We reached out to Geroge from Christoforos having heard about the inspiring work they undertake to help protect children when online. Having liaised together, we chose to host a workshop in school for our Year 6 children and their parents as we thought this would help open up conversations within and across families about not only the importance of staying safe online but the how and the why this is so important. The workshop itself was led with integrity by George, who spoke passionately about the subject and was an inspiration to all those in attendance. It has led to significant discussion among Year 6 parents, encouraging collective reflection and shared responsibility as a parent community. Conversations emerged around phone usage, gaming boundaries and consistent approaches to social media access. Parents feel that this workshop empowered them to take action, understanding that safeguarding works best when families move forward together rather than in isolation. Importantly, it has encouraged open and honest conversations at home between parents and children. The positive impact extended beyond those who attended. The discussions “fed forward” into the wider parent community, influencing families who were not present and broadening awareness across the year group. Feedback from parents in attendance was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed gratitude for the honest delivery, the clarity around risks, and the practical guidance on how to approach difficult conversations with their children. Importantly, the message did not end with the workshop. Year 6 teachers followed up the very next day with the whole class, reinforcing key safeguarding messages and ensuring every child — including those whose parents were unable to attend — received consistent information and support. This collective approach strengthened the message and demonstrated true partnership between school, parents, and community organisations.

We were pleased to welcome George Nicolaou as a guest speaker at our college as part of our safeguarding unit. He delivered an incredibly powerful and heartfelt presentation to both our young learners and our mature students, many of whom are parents. George bravely shared his own personal tragedy to raise awareness of the dangers of online grooming, offering our students a real and deeply moving insight into the risks young people face in the digital world. His ability to turn such a painful experience into an educational and protective message was truly inspiring. His presentation was engaging, emotionally charged, and delivered with authenticity and compassion. George spoke with clarity and purpose, holding the attention of everyone in the room from beginning to end. He created a safe and open environment, encouraging students to reflect, ask questions, and discuss their concerns at the end of the session. The feedback from students has been very positive. Many commented on how impactful his story was and how much more aware and informed they now feel. We are extremely grateful to George for sharing his experience with such courage and for helping educate our learners about this vital safeguarding issue. It was a meaningful session that left a lasting impression on us all.
